A decade after she was abducted by crazed serial killer Sam Gazade, Rachel Carter is now a respected detective. The man who almost killed her is set to be executed, but at the eleventh hour a disturbing copycat emerges.

Forced to finally confront her past, Carter quickly realizes that the killer's long lost diary might be the key to what's happening. But has the diary merely emerged by chance, or has Gazade found a way to communicate with whoever is responsible for the latest wave of crimes?

Meanwhile, Carter has another problem. As her cancer becomes more aggressive, she's forced to take an increasingly powerful cocktail of drugs. These drugs, however, dull her mind and reduce her ability to pursue the case. If she continues with the treatment, Gazade and the copycat might get away with more crimes. But if she stops taking the drugs, she could be signing her own death warrant.
