Twenty-four years ago, Emily Stone and her mother claimed that they were being haunted by a malevolent spirit. An investigator named Robert Slocombe tried to help the family, only for the whole thing to be revealed as a hoax. Emily wasn't being targeted by a ghostly presence, and Robert's career was left in ruins.

Today, Robert is still struggling to forget those awful events. And then Emily Stone contacts him again, out of the blue, begging for his help. Emily claims that her own daughter is now being tormented by a ghost, and that parts of her original story were true. Robert ignores her request, until a horrific accident forces him to return to the scene of his greatest humiliation.

Was the haunting of Emily Stone really a hoax, or was there a sliver of truth to the claims made by the girl and her mother? And are Emily and her daughter really in danger now?
