Looking for a room to rent, Hazel answers an advert placed by a reclusive widower. When she visits the house, however, she's shocked by his proposal. Michael Emery is willing to let her live in his home for free, provided she spends one night with him in his bed each week. She turns him down.

Several years later, still down on her luck, Hazel sees Michael advert again. This time, broken and disillusioned, she tries to make the arrangement work. Soon, however, she discovers that Michael might not be as alone in the house as he seems. Does the ghost of his dead wife still haunt the building, and if so, what did she really mean when she whispered her dying words all those years ago?
