When her daughter Katie goes missing in London, Winifred Wren sets out from her quiet village and heads to the city. Determined to find Katie, Winifred quickly finds that no-one is willing to help, but she refuses to back down. And then she finds the strange markings, including pentagrams, on the walls of Katie's flat.

With the police failing to offer much help, Winifred has to find a way to locate Katie herself. She soon encounters a down-on-her-luck journalist who offers some information, but Winifred can't believe that her beloved Katie would have become involved with bad people.

A mysterious London house hides an ancient society, and soon Winifred has to face the fact that Katie might be behind the house's well-secured doors.
