Annie Mackenzie is very ordinary. At least, that's what she thinks. She lives a dull life in a dull town, and there's nothing special about her at all. Until one night, on her way home from a party, she realizes she's being followed.

By the time the night is over, Annie's life has been changed forever. At the edge of town, a secret testing facility is conducting a series of shocking experiments. For hundreds of years, humans have dreamed of vampires, werewolves and other creatures. Now one scientist believes he can reverse-engineer all of these entities and more, creating an army of nightmares.

Something has gone wrong, however, and Annie soon finds herself drawn into a deadly fight for survival. She thinks her life will never be the same again, but is there one more surprise waiting for her? Was her life really changed on that fateful night in the forest, or has she been connected to the Middlewych experiment for longer than she ever imagined?
