When Laura and her family move to Baxendale House, they soon discover that something isn't right. Strange scratching sounds fill the house at night, and whispers drift out from behind the walls.

Laura starts to experience a series of intensely vivid waking dreams in which she's transported to the seventeenth century. Back then, a terrifying priest-hunter named Nykolas Freeman roamed the countryside, searching for fresh victims. Anyone who stood in his way soon paid for their defiance – with their lives. And some say that Freeman is still out there, forever hunting the few priests who got away.

Laura soon discovers that the past and present are about to collide. Many years ago, a priest hid in the walls of Baxendale House. Is he still there, and is he still in danger? And does Laura's little sister Suzie hold the key to ending the horror?
