When a boat arrives off the island's coast, Iris discovers that its occupant is an important figure from the mainland. But why would anyone risk such a dangerous journey, and what is the mysterious stranger's connection to Asher?

Soon, the new arrival is followed by more visitors. Two opposing armies, each determined to get the upper hand, stake their positions on the beach and before long the future of the island itself is in doubt. With Steadfall under attack, Iris realizes that Asher holds the key to the island's future. But Asher has been dead for years.
